Hi Crystal,
I’d like to nominate Pieter Kark for a Values Recognitions Award.
Pieter was relatively new to PAARC when the merger was announced. My first exposure to Pieter was when he took a class from me, and he clearly engaged and trying to get all that he could from the class. My second exposure to him was when he took ownership of the call-down during Silver Sentinel. He didn’t just do it, he took advantage of the opportunity to figure out whether there was a better way of doing it, coming up with a number of excellent suggestions during the debrief about how we could improve.
As we got into the merger, Pieter joined volunteered for several groups. Early on, he volunteered to scribe for a Culture Group meeting, and his meeting notes were so excellent that he’s become everyone’s favorite scribe. I hope we don’t cripple his hand before this process is over. He has also made many valuable observations in various discussions, demonstrating a thoughtfulness and a special awareness of how people respond to all sort of situations and communications. This has been invaluable as the merger discussions have put so many people in to situations which could potentially cause conflict.
All in all, when Pieter gets involved in something he not only does it in excellent fashion, but he also applies intelligence, perspective, and humor to the task at hand. He’s a pleasure to work with.
Regards,
Stephanie (Charles)
